Announcement of the winners of the National Science Prizes and Awards 2024

At the announcement of the recipients of the 2024 State Prizes and Awards for achievements in the field of science, important honors were awarded, including the Zois Awards and the Puh Prize for Outstanding Achievements, which were given to three distinguished experts, also professors at the Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School (IPS).

Prof. Dr. Andreja Benčan Golob received the Zois Award for important achievements in the field of electron microscopy of environmentally friendly ferroelectrics. Her research is crucial for the development of materials that contribute to greater energy efficiency and the reduction of harmful lead use, marking a significant step forward towards sustainable technologies for energy conversion and storage.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomaž Grušovnik received the Zois Award for important achievements in the field of environmental ethics and animal ethics. His research contributes to understanding the relationships between humans, the environment, and animals, highlighting the importance of education for sustainable and ethical values.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nejc Hodnik received the Puh Prize for Outstanding Achievements in the research of catalysts for fuel cells, together with Dr. Matija Gatalo, Dr. Marjan Bele, and Prof. Dr. Miran Gaberšček. Together, they developed an innovative method for producing catalysts that reduces the need for precious platinum, contributing to the wider and more affordable use of fuel cells, enabling the transition to a sustainable hydrogen economy.
