Implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to tackle pests, weeds and diseases can be a real challenge for farmers and advisors. Decision Support Systems (DSS) can assist on-farm decisions to implement IPM.
The IPM Decisions project will create an online platform that is easy to use for the monitoring and management of pests across the EU. This platform will give farmers and advisers access to a large range of existing Decision Support Systems for their regional conditions. It will allow farmers and advisers to easily monitor and protect plants from pests; it will provide access to a number of existing decision support systems and will offer region-specific data, tools and resources.
A pan-European collective of farmers, advisors, DSS providers and researchers will design and develop the platform so it meets the needs of different types of user. This community will be called the IPM Decisions Network. Each type of user will access the Platform via a tailored ‘dashboard’, specific to their requirements. The dashboard will act as the user’s control panel to collate information and manage DSS applications.
IPM Decisions is a 5-year project that began in June 2019. It is co-ordinated by Dr Neil Paveley, Crop protection, ADAS (part of RSK Environment Ltd.), UK. The project has been granted €5 million and consists of 27 partners from 12 different European countries and two pan-European companies.

As part of the European project IPM Decisions, the online platform IPM Decisions will be freely available from 19 September 2022 and will facilitate the use of existing decision support systems for integrated pest management. The platform will support users in diagnosing plant health, suggest a range of measures to reduce the risk of crop damage and allow the effectiveness of these measures to be verified.
