Subsidized Student Meals

Beneficiaries of subsidized student meals are all persons with the student status who are studying at higher vocational colleges and higher education institutions in the Republic of Slovenia and are not in full-time employment or registered job seekers, do not perform economic, professional or agricultural activities or managerial functions as the sole or main occupation in accordance with relevant regulations for health care and health insurance and are not recipients of a pension, excluding recipients of a survivor's pension. Beneficiaries of subsidized student meals are also all students of foreign universities in the Republic of Slovenia which are studying within international exchange programs. They are subject to the same conditions as students studying at higher vocational colleges and higher education institutions in the Republic of Slovenia.«

To purchase a subsidised student public transport card you need:

  • personal document;
  • filled out and signed APPLICATION;
  • enrolment certificate.

Health Insurance

Foreign students can get health insurance at one of the following companies (all prices are from January 2020):

CORIS (Insurance for foreign students)

Students from outside Europe:

The health insurance covers all newly occurred diseases and injuries, however it does not cover any regular checkups or vaccinations for already existing conditions. Some restrictions also apply in relation to acute deterioration of chronic diseases.

In order to obtain health insurance, you will need to provide a certificate of enrolment, a valid passport, the desired initial date of insurance, and information if you are already in Slovenia (in case you are, a 3-day waiting period applies).

ZZZS (Mandatory health insurance for foreign students)

According to the 14th line of Article 15 of the Rules of Health Insurance foreign students living in Slovenia that do not have any other form of health insurance can apply for the mandatory health insurance in Slovenia.
